Open to the public, including NSP members. Completion of Modules 1 and 2 is a prerequisite. Maximum enrollment is 12. Interested people can register through the NSP website (www.nsp.org) as soon as NSP posts the course online. This course focuses on avalanche rescue. It is important for ski patrollers. For non-patrollers, Modules 1 and 2 fulfill the level-1 requirements established by the American Avalanche Association. Module 3 requires prior completion of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's free online course, IS-700.A: National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction.

Field session: 26 Feb
Instructor of Record: Myron Allen: allen@uwyo.edu

All courses require over-snow travel and day-long physical activity in winter conditions at elevations exceeding 10,000 feet above sea level.

Currently NSP does not charge fees for avalanche courses. But Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol typically charges a fee (less than $35; exact amount to be announced) in addition to the cost of the textbook, which is Bruce Tremper's Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain, 2nd edition, 2008. All instructors are NSP-certified avalanche instructors and are volunteers who receive no compensation. Fees help defray the costs of delivering the course.
