Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log:
Friday, January 8, 1999:  J. Smith, J. Hamann, B. Bloom
Saturday, January 9, 1999:  J. Hamann, K. Chamberlain
8 January 1999, 12 noon - 3:30 pm Tie City / Happy Jack Ski Trails.  Janet Smith (finish line
filming and skier assistance, supplier of two radios) and Barry Bloom (located on course)
kindly offered their assistance as patrollers during the first day of the Laramie High School
Nordic Ski Races (Jerry Hamann was doubling as chief-of-race and extra patroller).  The events
for Friday included 5km classic style races for both guys and gals, with the fastest times being
19:23 and 24:01 respectively (as Janet phrased it, these we some very tough gals).  We experienced
only minor medical concerns with no reported accidents on course and only a few finish line
worries (exhausted skiers, and a few nauseated folks, luckily no airway problems).  Conditions
were cool (~22F at race time) with intermittent snow and only light winds.

9 January 1999, 8:30 am - 11 am Tie City / Happy Jack Ski Trails.  Kevin Chamberlain provided
on-course assistance (with Jerry Hamann back at the start/finish, Janet's radios in hand)
for the second day of LHS Nordic Ski Races.  The events consisted of 7km skate races for the
top 30 guys and top 30 gals, then a 3.5km mass start skate for the remainder (42 guys and
49 gals).  Top times in the 7km race were 23:31 and 28:16 respectively.  Again, we were
blessed with no reported on-course accidents and only minor exhaustion concerns at the
finish line.  Temps were somewhat colder (~14F at race time, brisk winds, no new snow) and
some of the more sparsely dressed racers were encouraged to scoot back to their busses after
racing.
