Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Saturday-Sunday, January 23-24, 1999:  M. Allen
23 Jan 99, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Snowy Range.  Led the annual nordic Ski-
and-Toboggan test, followed by a mock rescue exercise.  The ski-and-
toboggan test took place starting at about 11:30 am, after a ski of about
2 miles along the Green Rock Cutoff and the western Potholes Trail.  The
test was held in the large, amphitheater-shaped meadow near the western
end of the Potholes Trail.  Participants included the following people:

    DEMONSTRATORS     JUDGES             CANDIDATES
Jerry Hamann      Henry Heasler      Kasia Wilamowska
Myron Allen       Kevin Chamberlain  Erin Schanzenbach
                      Todd Thibodeau     Matt Haines
                                         Barrie Bloom
All candidates passed the test.

The mock rescue exercise started at 2:15 pm, with a call from the mock
rescue site (Todd Thibodeau and me) at the outlet of Little Brooklyn
Lake.  The skiing party (candidates and judges led by Jerry Hamann)
arrived at the scene at about 2:45 pm, shortly before the rescue-sled
team (Rich Behounek, Frank Lamb, and Lisa Marno).  By 3:20 the mock
patient (Todd Thibodeau) was secured in the rescue sled.  The snowmobile
team returned to the Snowy Range Ski Area; the skiing party followed
Brooklyn Lake Road and Snowy Range Road to Green Rock, then met the
snowmobile team at the Ski Area for a postmortem discussion involving
Lisa Marno and Sheriff Jim Pond.

24 Jan 99, 9:30 am - 5:00 pm, Snowy Range.  Skiied with a party of 3
other people to Percy Park on Centennial Ridge, via Forest Roads 328 and
307.  Skiied 2 runs on the "Question Mark," which had excellent powder
snow and was stable on slopes having angle less than 30 degrees.  Saw
numerous other skiers and snowboarders.  Descended to the VIS parking
lot at about 3:45, then received a call from Jerry Hamann about
snowmobiler-tree collision.  We met near Snowy Mountain Lodge and
helped package a 28-year-old male patient for an ambulance ride to
IMH.  Details of this incident appear in Jerry Hamann's report.
