Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log:  Saturday, February 13, 1999:  M. Allen
13 Feb 99, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Snowy Range.  Skied with the Basic Mountaineering
class.  From Green Rock, skied to Swastika Lake, then south over a low saddle
to Libby Creek Trail.  From there, skied west into Libby Creek and then to
Bear Lake.  At Bear Lake, we received radio traffic regarding an injured
snowmobiler north of The Gap and a possible distress signal near Headquarters
Park.  Our party of 9 decided to split into two groups:  a party of 2 (Allen
and Heasler) to ski northwest toward Route 130, where we would be available
for SAR activities if necessary, and a party of 7 (led by Jaworowski) to ski
back to Green Rock.

After reaching Rte 130, Henry and I skied back to Green Rock along the highway.
When the rest of the party arrived, we resumed the Mountaineering field day,
and I began digging a snowpit.  I was interrupted by a radio call from VIS
reporting a woman with "heart problems" on Barber Lake Road.  I abandoned the
pit, turned radio communications over to Henry, called for an ambulance, and
drove down to VIS.  There I met the woman's husband and the Centennial Valley
Ambulance crew.  In radio traffic with Henry, we decided that he and Kasia
Wilamowski should ski down the Barber Lake Trail, on the chance that they could
reach the patient faster that way.  The Centennial EMS and I proceeded to
the lower intersection of Barber Lake Road and Route 130 and waited for
the patient to arrive via snowmobile.  The woman (who is a nurse) said
she was just experiencing an anxiety attack and tachycardia, which were common
for her.  I interviewed her and assessed her pulse and respirations and
decided that she was probably correct, then I had her speak with the Sheriff's
deputy.

The day ended at about 4:30, when the ski patrol party reassembled at VIS.
