Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Sunday, December 13, 1998: J. Hamann
Ski Location:   Travelled with Adele Aldrich, Myron Allen, Ben Roth, Lucy and
Libby the Wonder Dogs, and later Janet Smith and Ollie.  Skied from Green Rock
up the new Potholes Trail to the North Fork Trail, just east of Little Brooklyn Lake.
The day stayed clear with light breezes, just enough snow for a nice ski through
the sheltered potholes area.  Continued on up to Brooklyn Lake Campground via
some vintage Myron Allen route-finding, then back down Potholes, returning
to Green Rock at 3 p.m.  Encountered only one other skier during the day.  Contact
with Centennial Visitors Center at beginning and end of route, as well as a few
waypoints through-out the day.

Remarks:  Shovel shear was attempted, with an obvious smooth, hard running surface provided
at the top of the icey scintered layer.  The new snowfall from the previous week appeared to
have some potential for softslab formation, and could readily run on this very hard surface.
At other points along the trip, found glades with nothing but "sugary" hoar, then some wind-
swept areas with noticeable windcrust forming on top and running with some encouragement.
Not much snowpack to speak of, but still a beautiful day for a ski.
