54" snow depth
from ground up
8 " depth hoar
11" three finger
4" one finger
8" four finger
3" zero finger ice(second shear)
9" four finger
3" one finger
2"four finger (1st shear)
2" new
Shovel shear test: First shear was new snow sloughing off. Second was at
a layer 18 " down that was bullet proof. Must have been that hot weekend
two weeks ago. Still it did not shear that easily. The main concern is
still the ground hoar. Although it seems to be thinner, maybe more settled,
it is still there. Caution on steeps is still in order.
