Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Sunday, December 1, 2002: A. Foianini
I started from Green Rock parking lot, skied Libby Creek trail to the top of the hill, backtracked, 
and skied Barber Lake Trail all the way to the bottom. Traffic at the parking lot was very light 
for a weekend day; I counted only 15 vehicles with trailers and 6 vehicles without. Unfortunately, 
the ample parking did not prevent one wayward soul from parking his rig right in the middle of 
the �no trailer� parking (I guess we all know what an extra 20 feet up the trail means to 
some folks). The snow was very good at Green Rock � 11.5 inches of packed powder at the 
measuring stick � but deteriorated significantly on the lower half of the trail. The snow 
went from firm, yet delicate fluff to ice and crust that would make bobsledders drool right 
about the point when the trail dives off the main road. Be prepared to contend with icy ruts, 
bumps, and inconsistent snow from this point on. There were also several large patches of 
barren earth after the trail meets up with the river, including one rather nasty patch at 
the bottom of an icy hill along the river. It is important to note that these barren patches 
are not in the least bit skiable; they are, quite literally, 7-30 feet of exposed dirt and 
rock covering the entirety of the trail. USE CAUTION!!
