Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Sunday, February 8, 1998: M. Allen
8 Feb 98, 10:30 am - 2:30 pm, Snowy Range. Accompanied Janet Smith, Tim
Gilbert, and two others on a tour. Skied from Green Rock east along Barber
Lake Road, leaving the road to bushwhack east to the top of the prominent
knoll overlooking Snowy Range Ski Area. Dropped southeast to the base of
the knoll, then traversed to the Barber Lake Trail. Skied down the
Barber Lake trail, visiting the old Libby Creek ski area, then cut over
to Corner Mountain parking area via the Corner Mountain ski loop.
Dug a snow pit at the base of the old ski area. Janet Smith recorded
the data. In summary, there is a thick, well consolidated slab overlying
a substantial layer of large, faceted depth hoar.
