Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Saturday, February 14, 1998: M. Allen

14 Feb 98, 9:30 am - 3:00 pm, Snowy Range.  Ran the North Fork trail with a party of eight.  Skied what has become a standard route:  From Green Rock, we followed the power line to an open slope north of Mountain Meadow
Guest Ranch, then cut north to the high point of the North Fork summer trail.  We followed the summer trail into the North Fork Little Laramie drainage, leaving the trail near the corner of Sections 1 and 12, T16N R79W, and Sections 6 and 7, T16N R78W.  There we crossed the creek and caught a logging road leading to Forest Road 330, which we followed to the Sand Lake Road. From there we skied to a vehicle parked at Little Laramie trailhead.
This route would make an excellent marked ski trail, in my opinion.  It follows a drainage seldom used by snowmobiles. Also, since it avoids the V-shaped lower North Fork canyon, it does not traverse any avalanche-prone
terrain. Finally, since a skiable corridor exists for most of the way, it would require very little work to establish.
Radio contact with VIS was spotty all day.  However, I had no trouble contacting Jerry Hamann by radio.

15 Feb 98, 8:15 am - 2:30 pm, Loveland Basin Ski Area.  Participated in Loveland's avalanche field day, as part of the Advanced Avalanche class.
