Ski Location: Little Laramie Trail Head, Sand Lake road, Fallen Pines
Road, River Loop.
Snow Pit: West side of parking lot; exposed soil, no snow.
I joined a group of four skiers at the Little Laramie Trailhead. We skied
up Sand Lake Road; did't see any other skiers here but did see a lot of
people cutting christmas trees. One truck with a snowmobile in the back
was buried in the snow and I offered him the use of the shovels in the
back of my truck in the parking lot. The bubble heads owe us one.
We turned north on Fallen Pines road and skied to the top of the hill
which was about 1.5 miles in distance and had lunch. Here there is an
abandoned road (marked by large bolders) which we skied to the south for
about a quarter mile then we cut left through the trees on a "privately
marked" ski trail with blue flagging on the trees.
We traversed the hillside till we came across several old cabins probably
built in the thirties since they were built with dimensional lumber.
These cabins were located near a creek drainage(not named). We continued
to ski south till we intersected groomed trails not too far from the Sand
Lake road; we skied east on the river loop back to the parking lot.
Snow on the trails was groomed; some bare soil was exposed in sunny
areas. The snow in the trees prior to the groomed trails was nice but
stumps and fallen trees made for cautious skiing.
