Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log:  Sunday, February 27, 2000:  B. Bloom
I skied along the telephone line from Green Rock Picnic Area up to Mountain
Meadows Lodge.  I then followed the road up to Brooklyn Lake.  The snow was
wet & stuck to my skins.  I found a SE facing slope that appeared to be
without snowmobile tracks on the N side of the lake.  Here are my
observations:
               slope 30 deg.
               exposure 100 deg sse
               depth 4' 9" approx.
               temp 35 +/-
layers soft depth hoar to 9",  hard icy next 2', firm
granular up to 8" from top, last 8" soft & wet.
The shovel test broke at the 8" mark with little pressure.
It took 6 jumps on skis to knock down the uphill side of
                    the snow pit.

There were 70 snowmobile vehicles and 7 ski vehicles when I left at 3:45 PM.
Jim Pond reported 151 & 17 respectively at about 10:30 AM.
