On Jan. 20 Bob Howell and Mike Hotchkiss skied the Libby Creek Loop, then 
the route along the edge of the meadow above Green Rock up to the area of 
the Snowy Range Lodge.  We passed three other skiers on the Libby Creek 
trail.  The snow along the Libby Creek Loop is now deep enough to cover 
most obstacles.  The snow stake at the start of the trail shows 17 inches.

We dug a snow pit at NAD27 13T 0398321 4576821, on the open slope above 
(north of) the lower part of the Libby Creek trail.  The slope was 30 deg, 
facing 146 deg. (SW).  The air temperature was -12C, with overcast sky, 
high winds, and blowing snow.  The snow depth was 46 cm.

It took moderate pressure for the snow column to fail with the shovel shear 
test, first failing at the bottom of the new powder layer (37 cm) then at 
the top of the depth hoar (23 cm).
