Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Saturday, February 15, 2003: J.
Hamann
Traveled with the UW Outdoor Adventure Program Level I Avalanche class to
Cameron Pass for a day of snow condition evaluation and snow travel
decision making. Overnight, at least 8 inches of new snow fell, providing
a new layer of potential sluffing, not to mention the attraction of "freshies."
Climbed through the forest and at the edge of the west gully to the bench
underlying the Diamond Peaks. Class members dug multiple snowpits to
evaluate the snowpack. Beacon searching exercises were briefly undertaken
in a sheltered area on the north end of the bench. All returned safely
to the trailhead.
