Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log:  Sunday, March 20, 2005:  B. Howell
On Sunday March 20 Bob Howell skied the Potholes route from Green Rock
to the spot where it approaches the Brooklyn Lake Road near the North
Fork Trailhead, then skied back down the road. The weather was good
with intermittent sun and snow showers, with temperatures falling from
about 35F around 11 AM to about 30F by 3 PM. The wind was relatively
calm. The trail is in good condition with about 3 inches of fresh snow
(probably since Saturday) overlying a relatively hard breakable crust
on snow that apparently fell several days earlier. There are a few
rocks close to the surface in the open south-facing meadows near the
start of the trail. I met a group of four skiers who went up the trail
from Green Rock to the second esker, then returned. There are quite a
number of snow machine tracks in the upper meadows close to Brooklyn Lake
Road so following the ski route becomes difficult in this area, but in
these meadows almost any route will work if one is familiar with the terrain.

The Green Rock Parking Lot had not been plowed and the snow was deep
enough that no one was trying to park in it.

The car counts were as follows at 11 AM:

with without
trailers trailers
Corner Mountain Lot 0 0
Little Laramie Lot 0 1
Below Cattleguard 22 2
Cattleguard to Turnaround 28 1
Green Rock Picnic Gnd. Lot not plowed
P. G. to Snowy Range Lodge 25 15

Total 75 19
