Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Sunday, March 05, 2006:
J. Pohl
Tie City, MBNA Wee-Ski / Kid-Ski Carnival:
The weather was in the 40's with a light breeze. The day consisted of
races and games for both classes. The kids all seemed to enjoy themselves
and most were fairly confident on skis at that point. The snow was spring
like in consistency and we are in dire need of about 15 feet of late
winter up-slope snow. (plus or minus a few feet.) No injuries, lost
children, or other issues to report. There were perhaps some lost poles
still but it was not clear if they had all been found. Well locate them
after the 15 feet of snow melt. Thanks to Beth and all the volunteers.
Everyone had a good time it appeared.
Suggestion for the MBNA. Mount a "doggie bag" holder on the side of the
warming hut or on the information board sign. I spent a fair bit of time
"shovelling" up "remains of the dog" (did not win the Oscar). Aldo the
dog is pretty good about heading off into the deep snow well off the
trail. (He knows I am gunning for him and will plow him over. Smart dog.)
But I still carry a bag with me. Not sure if it will completely fix the
problem but it cannot hurt. I just think if a state health official came
by... and with the kids sledding and lying around out there I suspect on a
warm day E. Coli and other critters are perhaps a factor.
