Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Saturday, April 8, 2006:
R. Kubichek
Skied up Sand lake road Saturday April 8. Saw one snowshoer and 2 dogs.
Saw one group of 5 or 6 people walking up the road. Weather was warm, 40's or
50's and snow pretty soft. But the road is still completely covered
almost everywhere. One truck got stuck trying to go up the hill next to
230; they were gone when I returned and hadn't progressed further along
the road. I dug a snow pit at North Fork Camp Ground. There was lots of
snow - about 46 inches. Almost no layering, but there was about a 3 inch
layer of crystally ice (?) (I think I need to re-take the avalanche course...)
at 37-40" from the bottom. The top was crusty. Slope angle there is 0 degrees;
avalanche danger at the Camp Ground is quite low I think.
Vehicle report at 8:30:
Corner mountain: 0
Little Laramie: 1 car
Below cattle guard: 0
Cattle guard to Green Rock: 20 with trailers, 1 without
Green Rock: 1
Above Green Rock: 9 with trailers and 2 without.
Lots more were arriving as I was counting.
At 2:00pm there were 4 vehicles in the Little Laramie parking lot, zero at Corner
Mountain. I didn't go up the road to count those vehicles.
