Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Sunday, December 30, 2006:
R. Howell and J. Pohl
On Saturday Dec. 30, 2006 Bob Howell and Joe Pohl skied from Green Rock
Picnic ground out to the hairpin turn where the Libby Creek trail turns
and descends to the creek, then returned along the same route to Green
Rock. Snow conditions and weather were very good. The snow stake near
the start of the trail showed 30 inches, with about 4 inches of fresh
powder. (The markings on the stake are getting faint and should
probably be redone.) The weather was clear and calm, with temperatures
rising to roughly 20F by afternoon. We met just two snowshoers on the
trail, but it had clearly been used by other skiers earlier in the day.
There were also several other skiers just setting out from Green Rock
up the road as we arrived, and another group of four who had skied down
the Barber Lake trail were just returning by car shuttle as we were
packing up in the afternoon.
The Green Rock parking lot had not been plowed, but the snow had been
packed down enough that high clearance vehicles didn't have any trouble.
However a compact car would have had to be a little careful to avoid
getting stuck.
The car counts as of 10:15AM were:
