Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Saturday, April 14 2007: M.
Daly
Saturday I skied from my
cabin about ¼ mile up Old Rainbow Valley Road,
took the skis off and hiked to Barber Lake.
Put the skis on at
Barber Lake and headed up the Libby
Creek trail
just past the cabins and crossed the creek. I started traversing
up the
mountain there and ended up 1/3 the way up taking off my skis, sticking
them in
the pack and climbing to the top. Once there I skied the ridge to
the top of
the old lift line. Three hours from the cabin to the top.
From the top, you
sit on a ridge, it’s not near what it looks from the top of
Chute.
I explored around the top
¼ of the mountain and decided to
ski down “B” run which is just off to the skiers right of the old
lift line. Skiing became more graceful traversing as I tell you
what…
that is one steep son of a #&$%@. The snow conditions where
tricky and hard to
keep an edge. I’m not kidding you that portions of that SOB are
50
degrees or dang close to it.
It
took me three hours back down to the cabin. When I
stopped about ¾ mile above my cabin to call Sharon and tell her I was down, I
curled up
on my pack and rested for a good 20 minutes before I had enough energy
to make
it back to the cabin. Once there I stripped down, cooled off and
rested until
I had enough energy to crack a beer. All I can say is… thank God
I have
a hot tub up there!
