Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log:  Saturday, April 14 2007:  R. Howell

On Saturday April 14 Bob Howell skied the Potholes route from Green Rock to the where it approaches the Brooklyn Lake Road, then came back down the road and highway.  Temperature was in the 30's, and it was sunny with calm to light winds.  Near the bottom of the trail there appeared to be 2 to 3 inches of new snow from the last few days, increasing to 3-5 inches near Brooklyn Lake.  In the open is was already consolidated and crusted but in the trees, at least earlier in the morning, it still resembled powder.  By early afternoon it was becoming soft and slushy even in the trees.  Because of that I skied down the road.  Although there are a few bare stretches of the road there is enough snow just off the side to be skiable till just above the road closure point.  I didn't meet any other skiers on the Potholes trail, but from tracks one or two had gone up the trail very recently to the meadows near Brooklyn Lake Road, then returned down the trail.

The flagging on the trail is still in pretty good shape with just a spot or too which could use another marker.  However I didn't have more blue flagging with me.

The car counts as of              10:15AM          and 1:45PM were:
