Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Saturday, February 7, 2009:
D. Moncecchi & T. Thibodeaux
(With S. Pounder, L. Finley-Blasi and A. Ackerman)
Skied to Big Brooklyn Lake
via the Pot Holes Trail and took a run on the western side of the
lake.
It was about a 25-30+ degree pitch with an NE/E aspect. There was
about 6”
of powder on top of a wind slab. Ski pole compression indicated
stable
snow underneath the slab. E/SE aspects had wind slab with no
loose snow
cover. The temperature was a comfortable upper 20’s and partly
cloudy.
We left Green Rock at 11AM and returned at 5PM (6 hours plus 3
travel = 9hrs). Lee completed most of his S&T test.
There were
0 vehicles at Corner Mtn. Trailhead, 2 vehicles at the Little Laramie
Trailhead,
6 vehicles at the Green Rock Parking Lot. and we counted 62 vehicle
with
trailers parked on 130 to the Barber Lake Road
turnaround. We did not count
between the turnaround and the Snowy Range Lodge.
We encountered 3 skiers
a short ways in, trying to find the intersection to the Lower Pot Holes
Trail, we
confirmed using a GPS and map our/their location and the location of
the
intersection. They had maps/compass/GPS. In our
conversation, they
had interest in joining the Patrol and we provided information.
