Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Sun. November 22,
2009: M. Allen, J. Hamann, K. Cramer, C. Bilbrough, L.
Finley-Blasi
Members of the nordic and alpine patrols, together
with folks from the Albany County Sheriff's office and 2 local
mountaineers, participated in the rescue of a climber who was stuck
rappelling down the Walt's Wall area at Vedauwoo. The climber used a
prusik knot above the rappel device to back up the rappel, and was
unable to unweight it when it jammed. Fortunately, the weather
cooperated: it was about 25 degrees under partly cloudy skies, with
winds that were light by Vedauwoo standards. Everyone made it to the
ground safely by 9:30 pm, and the rescue party and 2 climbers were back
at the incident command post by 10:30 pm.
