Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol
Patrol Log: Sun. March 14, 2010: R.
Howell
On Sunday March 14 Bob Howell skied a short patrol up the Potholes Trail
to the first esker. There were ~8 inches of new snow from the storm a
couple days ago. Because of the high temperatures it was becoming
crusty, even in the trees. The snow depth along the trail and in the
lower meadows is fine, with just a few large rock formations now
starting to show in the lower meadows. It was cloudy, with the
temperature in the upper 20's.
I met several skiers at Green Rock just returning from the Brooklyn Lake
Cabin, and discussed trails with them, showing them the lower end of the
Potholes Trail. The blue flagging on that part of the trail which I
skied is fine. I added just a couple pieces of flagging near the lower
end, in the area of the lower meadows.
I also stopped at the Snowy Range Ski Area to check out the state of the
cross country trails north of the lodge. Although I only had time to
explore part of them they appear to still be well marked and receiving
some use. These are really the only cross-country ones along HW 130
which are truly beginners' trails.
The car counts at 1:10 PM were as follows:
