On Sunday Jan. 17th Chris Laursen skied the 'Ladies Downhill' out of Green Rock recreation area off of the Libby Creek trail and has these conditions to report: I found a significant amount of new snowfall this Sunday around the Green Rock area with a busy parking lot. Although there was a decent amount of new snow, trail conditions were excellent; packed from both skiers and snowshoers. With the significant amount of new snow I expected to also find heightened avalanche conditions, and observed at one point shooting cracks from our ski tracks on a lower angle slope. A snow pit was dug on a west facing, 26° slope at the top of ladies downhill at 12:15 pm and resulted in a 140cm deep snowpack. The pit was in a wind loaded area, typical of that spot. My extended column test resulted in a ECTP7 Q1 at 60 cm from the top on a thin layer between two windslabs. The air temperature was -2° C, and the snow surface temperature was -6° C. At that time skies were overcast, snowfall was moderate, and winds were moderate coming from the west.
